Scuba Diver Certification – how it worksBook My Scuba Diver Course
PADI’s Scuba Diver certification course opens up the world of diving to individuals with a limited amount of time, and for those who only want to make limited shallow dives. This is because the course lasts only two days and consists of the first three of the five segments that make up the Open Water Course. The certification allows you to dive to twelve meters deep, and you must be accompanied by a PADI professional. This is because the course does not teach you how to make and plan your own independent dives.
You get to watch the same DVDs, read the same manual, and master the same skills up to segment three, and the course includes two Open Water Dives. We normally visit Salang Bay South and the Middle Reef just in front of the beach for your open water dives.
During 2016 the sea has washed away some of the sand from the lower parts of the beach. This has uncovered some of the rocks below and has made the beach more difficult to cross in bare feet. So I strongly advise participants to bring a pair of flip flops to wear into the water until we are up to our chests. You can then float, take of your flip flops and put on your fins.
Salang Bay South with it’s gently slopping sandy bottom is a perfect site for your first open water experience. The hard corals are abundant and the marine life plentiful. Wrasse, parrot fish, rabbit fish and clown fish, damsels, antheas and nudibranch are all frequently seen here.
Middle Reef has it’s own charms. Chief among these is the sightings of cuttlefish and turtles. Mention should be made of the butterfly fish, morays and batfish that live in this area. As long as the students buoyancy skills are good enough to maintain safety, I like to visit the jetty area on the way back to shore, where the vast schools of snappers, silversides, and anchovies are always a thrill to see.
You need to be reasonably fit and healthy to undertake the PADI Scuba Diver course, so please check out the medical form below. Make sure that you can answer ‘No’ to all the questions on the first page. If you need to answer ‘Yes’ to any of the questions, print out the form, and seek the advice of your doctor. If he declares you fit to dive, please get him or her to fill out the form and then bring it with you when you visit.Medical Statement PDF
