My best deal for 2018 only, is based on my belief that people in general do not allow enough time for their diving courses.
My Open Water course lasted five days. Today the same course is usually conducted over three, or at the most four days.
Diving hasn’t changed. The equipment hasn’t changed significantly, and for sure the human physiology and the physics hasn’t changed. The course has been updated, but if anything there are even more skills to be mastered!
Which leads to the question of what has changed? Money is part of the answer. It is cheaper for both the provider and the consumer if the course is conducted over a shorter span of time. But I think the biggest change is in the pace of life.
Another factor is the predominant attitudes. Being English and now living in Malaysia there is also a cultural difference on the part of the boss and his view on holidays. In the west, apart from the U.S.A., bosses give paid leave in the belief that having a break from your work duties and having the chance of doing something different will bring you back to work refreshed and invigorated.
Asian bosses generally take a different point of view. They seem to expect extremely long hours of attendance and begrudge their employees taking any holidays at all.
I will leave it to others to judge the wisdom or truth of the matter, but I must say that I am glad to have spent most of my working life in the west!
I want my students to give themselves enough time to not only complete the course but to develop the confidence to fully enjoy diving, and establish a rock steady foundation of diving skills. To achieve this takes time.
Please bear in mind that you only learn to dive once in your life. Is it not worth giving the course and yourself the time they both deserve?
So what is my best deal for 2018 only? I am prepared to offer ALL my students one or even two days of extra training at the super low price of RM 150.00 per day per student to include two shore dives with all necessary diving equipment!
Although it is best to do this directly after the course (there is a continuum to the learning process), but with a view to the time constraints mentioned above, my students will be able to come back to take advantage of this offer at a later time, but during 2018.
There are only two constraints. The first is scheduling which shouldn’t be a problem this year, and the second is that this offer is only valid for 2018.
I think that this is a valuable addition to your options, and if there is a reasonable uptake of the offer and if my customers give me positive feedback then I will consider continuing the offer into the future.
Please let me know below or via my contact page if you think this is a good idea or indeed if you have any other ideas about training you would like me to consider.
Happy diving – and stay safe!
