Jamie and Adams Open Water and Advanced Diver Package July 2015

Jamie and Adam came to Salang in late July 2015 to achieve their ambition to become divers. During one of our first chats together they told me they planed to dive Sipidan in the near future. I told them to make sure they were Advanced Open Water Divers before they went.

This is because I know that the dive shops there are very strict about limiting the depth of their guests to their training limits – Open Water divers are only qualified to dive to 18 meters, while the Advanced Divers are trained up to 30 meters. This is done for the safety and enjoyment of all.

They both listened to my warning and promptly signed up for the Advance course to follow on directly after the Open!! How is that for enthusiasm and commitment! Way to go guys!

What followed was five days of intense learning, diving and fun!

Sadly no one had advised the guys to get the academic aspect of the course done before arriving on Tioman Island. Who wants to come to a tropical island and spend time in a class room watching PADI DVDs, and then more time reading the manual and completing Knowledge Revues? Get this stuff done ahead of time while you are still at home. That way you have much more time to enjoy you holiday and Salang Village.

That said, they both applied themselves to the courses and acquired a high level of skill by the end of their nine open water dives, plus their confined water training, and not to forget the afternoon they went for a fun dive with four of their friends who made an introductory dive. They were absolutely tireless!!

In fact the only shadow on the course was me! I caught a stomach bug on the first day, which left me unable to eat or sleep properly, and feeling generally under the weather. They showed me much understanding and patience, so thank you for that guys!

Enjoy your new passion, and I hope to see you again in the near future!
