Emma and Luqman
Emma and Luqman booked themselves in with me separately but in the same time frame – the middle of May this year.
Emma wanted to get her PADI Open Water certificate and a few days to relax and enjoy her holiday afterwards. Luqman, on the other hand booked my Open and Advanced Diver course package – he knew what he wanted so he went for it!Open and Advanced Course Package
Conditions in mid-May had settled down nicely after the unpredictable weather we experienced earlier in the season, and both students got on well with the course.
Before they arrived I checked with them both if it would be okay to run their Open Water courses together and they both agreed. I always feel that in many ways this is a better option that doing the course on your own.
Not only do you get to realistically practice and implement the buddy system but it emphasises to newcomers the social aspect of the diving. Here were two people, who during the normal course of their lives would never have met, taking on a new challenge together and forming an unexpected friendship.
After a great day out on the boat we all had dinner together to celebrate their achievement. Luqman was still keen to get his Advanced certificate while Emma could not be persuaded to join him. Come the 20th May they both left Salang having achieved exactly what they wanted! In my opinion it was a right proper result!!
Joo and Bernard
The month was bought to a close with Chew Poh Joo and her Dad Bernard Chew Choong. I love teaching different generations of the same family. This illustrates another aspect of diving as a family activity that members at different points in their lives can enjoy together.
Bernard had bought the course for Joo as her birthday present which added to the excitement. While they were a fun couple, they were determined to get the most out of their course and both achieved a good level of diving.
Welcome to the underwater world Emma and Luqman, and Joo and Bernard, and I hope to see you all again in the not too distant future!!
