Safety is always the number one priority. After that students must learn the skills set out by PADI. In the PADI Instructor manual it states that students must master the skills. I interpret ‘mastery’ as the answer ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Could the student complete the skill safely without my supervision?’ The techniques are not that difficult and most people can complete the courses without too much difficulty.
During 2016 the sea has washed away some of the sand from the lower parts of the beach. This has uncovered some of the rocks below and has made the beach more difficult to cross in bare feet. So I strongly advise participants to bring a pair of flip flops to wear into the water until we are up to our chests. You can then float, take of your flip flops and put on your fins.
Humans know instinctively that we cannot breathe in water, and it takes time to learn to trust the equipment, and feel comfortable and confident in this new environment. I believe that students must be given the time it takes in the water to achieve their aims. So if you decide to learn with me, please allow enough time to complete your course comfortably, and so enjoy your holiday here in Salang.

I have written two courses on underwater digital photography. Instructor written courses must be submitted to PADI for approval before they can be taught as part of the PADI system. Conway Bennet from PADI’s head office in Australia said of my first: “This is one of the very best Distinctive Specialty Courses ever sent in for review. “Be one of the first to take these unique courses. They consists of a knowledge development session, two open water dives, followed by a computer based workshop on improving digital images. You receive full PADI certification, plus a copy of all course material, plus a CD-ROM of your pictures to take home!!
